Who it is for

For people who live in mobile or manufactured homes, and for the family and neighbors who help them.

What you get

What is in it

  1. Why Your Home Is Not Your ShelterThis section tells you the plain truth about mobile and manufactured homes in severe weather, and changes the question from 'How do I make my home safe?' to 'Where do I go?' The rest of the guide is a plan to leave early and calmly.
  2. Choose Your Shelter and Know the RouteThis section turns 'go somewhere sturdy' into a named place, a route you have driven, and a time you have measured. Do it in calm weather. It is the most important decision in this guide.
  3. Alerts That Wake You: Watches, Warnings and the Night SetupA warning only helps if it reaches you in time to act on it. This section shows what each alert means, what to do at each level, and how to build three layers of alerting so that one failure does not leave you without a warning.
  4. Tie-Downs, Anchors and SkirtingAnchors limit damage to your home and your neighbors' property, but they do not turn the home into a shelter. This section shows what a proper system looks like, what you can safely check by eye, and what to ask a qualified installer to check.
  5. Go Bag, Documents, Contacts and PetsWhen you leave a mobile home, you leave fast. This section helps you pack one bag, one folder and one contact page now, so you can grab them on the way out and go.
  6. Tornado Plan: When to Leave, Where to Go, How Long You HaveThis section gives you one clear rule for when to leave, a short sequence to follow when you go, and three walkthroughs to rehearse before the night it counts. The goal is simple: be at your shelter before the tornado, not on the road when it arrives.
  7. Hurricane, High-Wind and Flood Plan: Leave EarlyThis section gives you a plan for hurricanes and high winds that is built on leaving early, with a clock you set now in calm weather. It also covers flood rules and the insurance step that has to happen well before a storm.
  8. Winter, Power Cuts, Heaters and FireCold, power loss, heaters and fire are the hazards you can meet in ordinary weather, with no tornado or hurricane involved. This section helps you keep pipes, heat and air safe, get through a power cut, and get out fast if a fire starts.
  9. After the Storm: Re-entry, Utilities, Documentation, Insurance and FEMA HelpThis section gives you the order of steps after a storm, from the first safe hour to the last deadline. Follow the order. The early steps protect your life, and the later steps protect your claim.

Why Your Home Is Not Your Shelter

This section tells you the plain truth about mobile and manufactured homes in severe weather, and changes the question from 'How do I make my home safe?' to 'Where do I go?' The rest of the guide is a plan to leave early and calmly.

WarningMost mobile and manufactured homes cannot be made safe shelter in a tornado, hurricane-force wind or major flood. The National Weather Service (NWS), NOAA and FEMA all give the same advice: leave for a sturdier shelter before the storm arrives. Age, quality and anchoring do not change this advice.S63, S18, S19

The honest answer first

This is hard to read if the home is yours, you have kept it up, and you have paid for it. It is still the most useful thing this guide can tell you. A home that looks solid on a calm day can be destroyed by wind.

So the question changes. Stop asking, 'How do I make my home safe?' Start asking, 'Where do I go, and when do I leave?'

That question has an answer, and you can settle it on a calm day. A plan made now, in calm weather, gives you your best chance of getting somewhere safe in time. People who know where they are going, and how long the trip takes, can leave early and without panic. The rest of this guide helps you build that plan.

Questions

What exactly do I get?

Two PDFs in one download. The Quick Pack (13 pages) is the short version: the one-page plan, the checklists and the sheets to fill in and keep. The Full Guide (100 pages) has the reasons, worked examples and everything else. Open the Quick Pack first. Both are laid out for US Letter paper. You print them, or read them on a tablet or computer. There is nothing physical to wait for.

How do I get it after I pay?

Payment is handled by Payhip, a payment service for digital products. As soon as it goes through, you see a page with your download link, and the same link is emailed to you. This website never sees your card details.

Can I print it?

Yes. It is made for printing: big type, plenty of space to write, and worksheets you fill in by hand. Print the whole thing, or only the pages you need. Print at 100% size on US Letter (it also prints fine on A4).

Is it based on real sources?

Yes. Every instruction traces to an official source such as Ready.gov and FEMA, the CDC, the National Weather Service, the American Red Cross, the US Department of Energy and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The sources are listed at the end, with tags next to the items they support. It was fact-checked and safety-reviewed before publication. It is still general information, not professional advice, so check anything critical with your local authorities.

Is it just the free plan on a PDF?

No. The free personal plan gives you a checklist and your top priorities. The guides go further: decision rules, schedules, scenario walkthroughs and worksheets you fill in, written for one situation in depth.

Can I get a refund?

Read the free sample and the full contents list first, so you know what you are buying. Because this is a digital download, we cannot refund it once you have downloaded it. If you have not downloaded it yet, email hello@afternormal.co within 14 days and you will be refunded. If the file is faulty, will not open or is not what we described, email us and we will fix it, replace it or refund you. See the terms for the details.

Will I get updates?

Official guidance changes. If we revise this guide you will be able to download the new edition from the same link.
